My buddies and I are running a li'l film festival at Norwescon (http://www.norwescon.org) and we're looking for submissions!

If you've never ben to Norwescon, it's a lot of fun. It's a sci-fi convention held in Seattle WA every year. We run a moviemaking workshop there, called "Let's Make a Movie!". Here are some of the results of previous workshops: http://www.eskimo.com/~rkj/norwescon.htm

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Please feel free to pas this around to any moviemaking buddies, if you like.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Here's the rules:

1. Filmmakers must be Norwescon members and should be present at the convention to introduce their movie(s)

2. Movies should be ten minutes or shorter.

3. Movies should be appropriate genre films for Norwescon (sci-fi, fantasy, horror). If it addresses this year's theme, even better.

4. Submissions should be on VHS videotape or DVD-R or MiniDV tape 5. There will probably be no prizes, but the judges urge you to not consider this a deterrent to the occasional bribe. Pop-Tarts, for example.

6. Entries should be sent to The Fandance Film Festival c/o Guerrilla Productions, 11105 SW Cottonwood Lane, Tigard, OR 97223. Please do NOT send submissions to any other address, as no one will know what to do with them.

7. Submission deadline is March 13, 2006. Submission fee: none. Late deadline is April 1, 2006. Late submissions may be treated scornfully. Late submission fee: a very good excuse. Handwritten.

8. All entries must include submitter's name, address, phone number, title of piece, length of piece, and a signed and dated statement declaring "I release all rights to broadcast/display/present this movie to Norwescon for the purposes of the Fandance Film Festival and other supporting situations/advertisement ONLY, including the right to duplicate it for mechanical/projection purposes.", and anything else you think we should know. Entries can be picked back up at the film festival.

9. The people running this film festival are fairly responsible, but imperfect, being composed entirely of meat. Therefore, they might make mistakes. In fact, they probably will. I mean, it's Sunday after a long con, so you should just expect a bit of goofing around. But we're doing our best, so please understand and have a little patience.

Flesh of my Flesh needs you!

It's a low-budget action horror movie that looks like a million bucks! Flesh of my Flesh (http://www.FleshOfMyFlesh.com/) chronicles the last hours of the War of the Undead, told from the point of view of the people stuck in the middle.

We're deep in post-production now and we're looking for a handful of very short special visual effects. Basically, there are some key seconds here and there where we could REALLY use a trick of lighting, a flash of inspiration, a dash of rotoscoping, the barest flicker of 3d or even the occasional wire erased. The pieces are rarely more than a second or two long, so the committment isn't that great per piece.

As payment, we can offer our profound gratitude, screen credit, and a copy of the DVD when it's finished.

What kind of schedule are we looking at? Well, the nice thing is that the assignments are all short and are designed to be distributed, so you can take your time and do the great job you've always wanted to do.

A little bit about us: Guerrilla Productions has been making movies since 1999. In 2003, we premiered our first feature, "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath" (which was also anim) and shortly thereafter released it on DVD. It is now in its second printing. In 2004, we released our second DVD, "The Cosmic Horror Fun-Pak". "Flesh of my Flesh" will probably be our third DVD. So, it WILL be produced (in case you were wondering).

Ideally, you'll have some kind of experience with your tools of choice (we really don't care, as long as the files can ultimately be imported into Adobe Premiere, which means damn near any delivery format -- heck, you could send us a collection of sequential bitmaps if need be!), and be willing to ask questions and be eager to try new things. Each scene is a unique and cool piece of this movie.

If you're interested, please drop our CG Supervisor, Leopoldo, a note, at Leopoldo@FleshOfMyFlesh.com, or ask questions here, if you like.

Greetings,
There is a bubbling wave of new media and film artists in the Eastern parts of Oregon, La Grande specifically. This land gave way to locations for films such as "Paint your Wagon, " where I hear Lee Marvin did a disappearing act for a week during production and was later found playing poker and drinking in a small rented room in the back of a small bar. This area is prime with location value and flavor. The wallowas and blue mountains are a great asset to Oregon and to filmmkers. I would liek to see some more filmmakers making there way here to check out the place. Locations are cheap, probably free, if approached properly and you would be amazed at the number of artists and creative souls hidden in the woods, away from the craziness. I feel that Eastern Oregon is an untapped resource and I would love to see it start to grow. With respect and wonderful intention this area would become a filmmaic wonderland.
If you are interested in this area contact me and I can help you make arrangments. I am currenlty working on a million dollar film for just under 30K. There are good people here.

For more information contact: pete@galaxie-pictures.com

SYNOPSIS:

Teenage Sherri, a new arrival to Lake Charles, Louisiana, gets a rude awakening as the locals give her a slice of real Southern hospitality, small town style. Included in her Lake Charles initiation are some hard lessons on friendship, family, and bigotry—not the kind made of ephemeral remarks and incidental ostracizing of outsiders, but real and vicious institutional racism, the kind that ends in murder.

Sherri arrives as the locals prepare for the funeral of Mary, the town’s Contraband Days Celebration Queen. With her death begins the shattering of the perfect picture of southern hospitality that she represents. Grieving is glossed over in favor of panic about the town’s quickly evaporating marijuana supply. What’s really died is the smiling welcoming south, and its warmth and hospitality are quickly replaced by a rapid growth of weeds.

Then the ensemble cast of Unfiltered gradually unwinds into a hard picture of gritty southern life as facades of tolerance gradually peel / crumble away. What’s revealed is the stuff that’s usually swept under the carpet.

We considered doing it as a greenscreened effect, but I don't think we're up to that technical piece of wizardry yet.

I can sketch out roughly what I want to do, but I would really like some advice about this. Other actors must interact with the severed head, both above and below the neckline.

We are doing as much of it with camera tricks as we can -- extreme closeups, frame-tricks, etc., but really, unless we show at least one good shot of the head just suspended in a frame, then everyone will know we're cheap-ass bastards (which we are).

Is there a NAME for this trick or a tutorial online somewhere or anything?

For Immediate Release
Contact: Veronica Rinard, Oregon Film & Video Office
(503) 292-5832

A new economic study shows that when cameras roll, money rolls into
Oregon's economy. The study by ECONorthwest economics consultants shows
Oregon's film and video industry continues to be a strong economic driver in
the state, creating a significant number of jobs and economic output.
"The ECONorthwest study confirms my belief that strengthening our local film
and video industry - and bringing in new productions from outside the state
- will give a major boost to Oregon's economy. This is a clean industry
that brings in millions of dollars and pays high wage jobs. As such, I
intend to continue my policy of developing incentive programs that will make
Oregon an even more attractive place for producers to shoot their films and
commercials," said Governor Ted Kulongoski.
The study reports the film and video industry generated more than 10,000
full time equivalent jobs in the year 2002, and accounted for $836-million
in total economic output. The number of jobs created was down slightly from
the year 2000, when more than 11,000 jobs were supported by the industry,
while the total economic impact was up slightly from 2000's level of
$835,611,000.
The study looks at the industry in three segments: Indigenous film and
video productions, out of state film and video productions, and television
and cable broadcasting. The analysis showed improved numbers for the
indigenous film and video productions, and decreases in total output for the
out of state and broadcasting segments due to the economic slowdown, weak
advertising revenues, and increased competition from other filming
locations.
--more--

Film study pg 2

ECONorthwest prepared the report for the Oregon Film and Video Office,
Portland Development Commission and Oregon Economic and Community
Development Department to assist the agencies in creating strategies for job
creation and economic growth in the state.

ECONorthwest suggests that if Oregon implements incentive programs similar
to those in Louisiana and New Mexico, we could expect to reap even more
benefits than those states have, because Oregon has a much more established
industry and crew base to begin with. Louisiana's business has grown from
about $40-million per year in out of state production spending to
$200-million per year.
"This study upholds the film and video industry's place in Oregon's
economy, and also shows we're on the right track in creating new incentive
programs to make Oregon more competitive for this business," said Veronica
Rinard, executive director of the Oregon Film and Video Office.
Details of the study can be found on the Oregon Film and Video
Office website, at www.Oregonfilm.org <http://www.Oregonfilm.org>, or the
PDC website at www.pdc.us/newsroom.

This weekend (October 1, 2, 3) is the annual H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival, which is held in Portland. Once again, the Hollywood Theater is hosting the weekend long event, which celebrates the work of early American author H. P. Lovecraft. If you thought "Re-Animator" and "From Beyond" was the only thing going on from the world of Lovecraft, then boy are YOU in for a surprise!

The Festival brings in dozens of short movies from all over the world, features from all over (and from different time periods!), live musical guests, vendors, contests, and prizes.

Me, personally, I have a ten-minute short film in it called "Innsmouth Legacy" (one of our best), and from what I've seen of the other offered movies, you're in for a treat!

The Lovecraft Film Festival website is

Hope to see you there!

On Wednesday evening, we need some extras for a wedding scene -- just people sitting in pews, basically.

If you're interested, please drop me a note.

I make a bunch of short movies and we also recently completed a feature length animated adaptation of the 1927 fantasy novel "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath", which has nearly sold out its first pressing and is being picked up by Lurker Films as one of the items in their first collection.
Pay is screen credit and a copy of the movie when finished, and links from the webpage if desired.
I was just sitting outside my house, looking at all the open space and thinking about going to the drive-in when I was a kid. This valley used to have two, maybe three of them. Like most drive-ins, though, they've gone the way of atari and fashion shoulder pads. No idea why.
Anyhow, I was wondering who would like to try and work to put together a (possible) weekly screening up here at the ranch. Nothing too fancy, just blankets and some chairs, a bunch of cold beers, and our favorite (or yet-to-become-favorite) flicks. Of course, I'd need help locating a good projector (preferably DVD) and a large screen. Any ideas? Everyone I've talked to seems psyched about the idea.
We've got all the amenities up here, there's no space/sound issues, and I got a lot of tools. So whose up for putting this together?
